Who
We Are
Origins
of Crosscare Migrant Project
Crosscare Migrant Project was established as ‘Emigrant
Advice’ in 1987 as an updated response by the Dublin
Diocese to the increased rate of emigration in the 1980s.
Its predecessor was the Catholic Social Welfare Bureau established
in 1942, which offered advice and assistance to emigrants
of the 1940s, 50s, 60s, and 70s.
Crosscare Migrant Project is one of the 11 programmes of Crosscare,
the Dublin Diocese Social Care Agency. Since 1987, Crosscare
Migrant Project has been working with migrants in vulnerable
situations. Originally, Crosscare Migrant Project (as Emigrant
Advice) worked with intending emigrants. In recent years,
clients of Crosscare Migrant Project include intending emigrants,
emigrants, immigrants, returnees and intending returnees.
Importantly, the common factor for all of Crosscare Migrant
Project’s clients is that they are migrants in vulnerable
situations.

Crosscare
Migrant Project aims:
- to provide
a quality information and support service in order to enable
people involved in a migration decision or experience, especially
the most vulnerable, make informed choices;
- through our
engagement with clients and in collaboration with others
to effect positive change in migration policy.
The
decision to migrate is a major one. The availability of high
quality information and advice is crucial to enable the migrant
to settle and adjust to life in a new country. Information
is the tool that enables the person to participate fully in
a new society.
Services
Crosscare Migrant Project provides information and advocates
on behalf of emigrants, returnees and immigrants through its
walk-in, outreach, phone and email services, website, publications,
